The Pitch

Today I attended the Young Entrepreneurs Connect Conference and I pitched an idea I have. My past few days have been spent preparing, I found myself going back to my Genesis notes from our pitching lecture, very very very helpful.

Today I feel like I truly lived the life of an entrepreneur at the beginning stage of a business. You have an idea you believe is good and you are determined to have people buy into it. Well I got some tough questions after my pitch however I am glad to say I held my ground. I got some tough feedback too and found myself thinking of the characteristics of an entrepreneur I was gravitating between being open to criticism and using it to improve my idea AND my pitch and toughening up my skin knowing that tough feedback is not personal AND being nervous…

“If it’s both terrifying and amazing then you should definitely pursue it” - Erada

I am glad to say that I am better for it, and I find that it motivates me more to work on my idea and go back out there and pitch, pitch, pitch. It also makes me want to work on more ideas and make them happen.

I am really thankful for the lecture we had on pitching, what a life saver.

Some lessons I learnt

  1. You need to inspire confidence, if you are not convincing your idea will not be.

  2. Don’t let it get personal – criticism is good. Use it to make yourself and your idea better.

  3. Research, research, research – know your business inside out.

  4. Expect the unexpected question and be prepared. Those you pitch to will ask you questions to try and push you. Keep calm and answer confidently.

“It’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen.” – Scott Belsky, co-founder of Behance.
