Zero to One – Peter Thiel

Only with the benefit of hindsight can one really look back over what we as a group have accomplished or failed and make the necessary changes going into the future. This is the idea of Action Learning which this course centres around.

With this benefit of hindsight one can ask oneself questions life;

Who am I?

What do I stand for? (What does my business stand for?)

And, where are you going? (Where is my business going?)

These questions cannot be answered without some serious thought and in my opinion no one really

knows the answers starting anything new in their life, especially a new business venture.

Instead of asking these types of questions I feel it is more important to focus on how you can create your own space where you are in control and where you are comfortable to operate within.

When it comes to business and personal understanding Peter Thiel has a nice take on how one can create their own space.

Peter Theil says, “Focus on businesses that create something NEW”. The idea is to not incrementally improve existing products and services and portray them as new to the world, but rather “build and maintain a monopoly.” This ties in with the Blue Ocean Strategy where one aims to eliminate the competition by creating “Blue Oceans”, effectively monopolies where one has uncontested competition.

The below YouTube URL summarises Peter Thiel’s Zero to One simply and graphically and is worth a watch if you aspire to create a unique business.
