“Go green or go home…”

A crucial pillar for our Rain Dear business is that we come up with innovative ways to use plastic. This

presents a challenge in a time where the environment around our business is very focussed on being

eco-friendly and sustainable and ultimately going green.

As we learn in studying organisational theories like the Open Systems Theory the external

environment has an effect on a business and needs to be taken into consideration.

During the Expo on Wednesday I was faced with a slightly disgruntled person who challenged the

eco-friendliness of our product. In response to his objection I informed him that you can recycle our

product eventually one day as it is plastic. However, this encounter has stuck with me.

Through this encounter I learnt that when you are running a business and introducing a new product

there will be objectors as people are very easily offended and some may be very vocal about it. In as

much as one should not be affected by what people think perception of your business is important.

Thus it is worth your while to consider the possible objections and/or negative ramifications that you

and your business may have on the environment and proactively endeavour to mitigate those

effects rather than allow them to become a challenge for your business in the future.

Therefore, in response to the title of this blog post “Go green or go home” I say “Or learn to recycle”
