So part of our task as a Team, was to present about the opportunities that are available in South Africa for entrepreneurs. One of the main things we realised is that entrepreneurship is not embedded in out philosophy as a country. So why does this matter? You may ask well, who else is going help us if we can’t help ourselves? The rates of unemployment are absurdly high for any nation and are not about to change direction anytime soon. The amount of graduates sitting at home are nesting on their degrees is increasing just as fast. Sadly to say but for there to be jobs, there have to be businesses, and for there to be businesses, there have to be entrepreneurs.
Our level of entrepreneurial activities always rate as one of the lowest in the world. S if other developing countries are doing it, what excuses do we have?
What reasons do we have to wait for someone or some organization to endow us with our livelihoods? It is interesting how we have so much emphasis on liberation yet refuse to do so in our day-to-day lives. And yes like all forms of liberation…it has to be worked for!
In South Africa there is so much emphasis on getting a degree, but beyond that what other skills do we posses, individually and as a nation?
