So in our groups we were excited and ready to go! We had arranged for our prototype to come from China, and had identified a potential supplier. Then Halt! We were stopped right in our tracks; turns out that a higher portion of our product had to be South African. So we have gone around and been fortunate to find that it’s not as difficult as it seems to find local suppliers. However our options are few and far between. We were fortunate to find a potential one because of contacts.
So what happens to those other entrepreneurs who do not have any information?
How do they find their suppliers? As usual there are upsides and downside to supporting locally, its very difficult to resist the low cost and efficiency overseas, yet quality control is quite essential and is done best when producing on your own shores. Also progressing in your company could possibly lead you to grow and start sourcing locally in other areas.
So for us now, we are starting with the local experience and which ever direction you choose it’s helpful to decide which way will benefit more people who need it
the most.
